Get to Know The Roade House

The Roade House Cafe Bar and Yoga Studio
Our Story.. The Roade House Cafe Bar and Yoga Studio We had a vision - we want to to create a venue you can drink fabulous coffee, enjoy a cold beer or a freshly prepared plant based meal. Somewhere you can bring the family, the dog, but also meet someone for a quiet chat, a meeting or to catch up with some work. Even more we want you to join us for some Yoga, Pilates or perhaps a new hair cut!? Where do you find such a diverse place? We are open for breakfast, brunch, lunch, afternoon tea or your evening meal.

It all started when.. our children were younger, Paul loves pubs, Maxine loves healthy eating and Yoga we both wanted to sit somewhere comfortable, safe and not too noisy. Prior to moving to Roade we lived in Hartwell for 10 years, but around this area we were very limited on places to go. Move forward to 2019, Maxine being a qualified Yoga teacher she wanted her own studio, plus she has managed a cafe in the past, Paul has been running a car and van sales site in Milton Keynes for 19 years but fancies a change and is looking for a new challenge.

Whilst on holiday in Mexico we notice the Roade House is up for sale, a 10 bedroom hotel with a conference room and restaurant. Maxine suggests we buy it, run Yoga classes in the conference room and open the best plant based vegetarian and vegan cafe for miles around. (Maxine and our daughter Florence have been vegan since 2016). So we sell our house and move in on the 31st October 2019. The place had been empty for nearly 11 months so lots of refurbishing to do. The Yoga is first to open in December 2019, and the cafe opened in March 2020. THEN ALONG CAME COVID 19. We had only opened for 6 days and we had to close. Some 5 weeks later we reopened for takeaway only and thanks to local support that kept us going until July when we reopened fully (with restrictions). In the meantime we apply for planning to covert some of the rooms to a hair salon. Again around this area there are very few options unless you are prepared to travel into Northampton or Towcester.

How we got here.. Maxine went to school in Roade, but grew up in Wootton and worked at Barclaycard for many years before children came along. Paul grew up in Weston Favell and worked in the motor trade before opening his own garage in 2001. Paul moved around Northampton, living in Kingsthorpe, Abington, Moulton, Weston Favell and East Hunsbury. Maxine and Paul met whilst both were working part time at Turners musical merry go round, Maxine worked behind the bar and Paul was the resident drummer.

Together we lived in East Hunsbury, Abington, Great Houghton, Hartwell and finally Roade. So between us we feel well placed to hopefully know what type of venue the town is missing.

Why open a plant based cafe bistro?.. The health benefits are massive, if you are a meat eater and not convinced give us a go, you may be surprised. We freshly prepare our dishes in our own kitchen and we bake fresh cakes everyday. Eating a plant based diet has become associated with sustainable weight management, a lower risk of certain cancers, prevention and treatment of hypertension and a lower risk of heart disease. Some elite athletes are also seeing the benefits of a vegan diet. The Roade House Cafe Bar and Yoga Studio
